Principal's Report

Dear Community,

As we continue our journey through the school year, one theme has remained a guiding light in our classrooms, playgrounds, and hearts: hope. In times of uncertainty, hope is the quiet strength that propels us forward. It reminds us that tomorrow holds promise, that challenges can be overcome, and that each of us—students, staff, and families—has the power to make a meaningful difference.

Over the past few weeks, our community has come together to celebrate some truly special occasions: Catholic Education Week, Grandparents’ Day, and the Feast Day of Mary MacKillop. These events have provided rich opportunities for our students to connect deeply with our values, our community, and one another. It has been heartening to witness their enthusiasm, reverence, and joy throughout these celebrations.

We are also proud to share the results of the 2025 NAPLAN assessments, which have now been distributed to families. Our Year 5 students have demonstrated outstanding growth across reading, spelling, writing, and numeracy. A significant number of students have progressed from the developing band into the strong and exceeding bands. This achievement reflects the dedication and expertise of our teaching staff, whose commitment to excellence continues to shape the learning journey of every child.

Looking ahead, Week 8 marks an important milestone in our school’s development: the School Renewal Process. This initiative invites reflection on what we do well and where we can grow. We will be seeking input from parents through interviews, and I encourage you to participate. Your voice will help shape our Strategic Plan for the next four years, ensuring our school continues to thrive and evolve in a positive direction.

Next week, I will be attending the Australian Catholic Education Conference in Cairns. This will be a valuable opportunity to engage with current issues in Catholic education and bring fresh insights back to our school. During my absence, Miss Ailie Lewis will be deputising.

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership.

God Bless,

Michelle

From the APMI

We have celebrated many special events over the past few weeks.

In Week 3, we came together as a school to celebrate all the wonderful things about being part of a Catholic School. Such days are critical in embracing our Catholic Identity, which promotes our schools as places of Faith, Hope and Love, where students and staff can flourish and reach their potential. We understand that each of us is created in the image of God, and therefore our schools are places where we seek to unlock potential to allow lives to flourish. During this mass we recognised those students in our school community who consistently embody the values of Catholic Education.  We congratulate them on their awards.

It was also lovely to have our grandparent's join us for a lovely morning of mass, morning tea and activities.  This is a great way to share our hospitality with these special people in our students' lives and to show them all the great things that St Joseph's has to offer.

Last Friday, we celebrated the feast day of Mary MacKillop.  Mary MacKillop is profoundly important to our school because she is its founding inspiration and spiritual cornerstone. As Australia’s first saint and co-founder of the Sisters of St Joseph, she dedicated her life to educating the poor and marginalized, especially in rural communities. Her unwavering faith, courage, and commitment to justice continue to shape the values and mission of St Joseph's. Through her example, our students are encouraged to live with compassion, serve others selflessly, and pursue excellence grounded in faith. Her legacy is not just historical—it’s a living guide for how we, as a school, nurtures hearts, minds, and spirits. Once again, we recognised those students in our school who continually live out these values in their daily lives. We are lucky to have such wonderful students within our school community.
