Principal's Report

Dear Community,

At my recent Leadership Forum in Goondiwindi, I was immersed in the Beatitudes, a series of blessings found in the Gospels of Matthew and Mark. These teachings offer guidance on how we might choose to live in the present. One Beatitude, “Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth,” deeply resonated with me. Often, the media portrays gentleness as a weakness—an invitation to be overlooked or taken advantage of. However, I believe we must shift this perspective. True strength lies in those who use their gifts to uplift others. When we reframe our understanding of power, moving away from dominance and force, we foster a culture of empowerment—one where people feel valued and encouraged to contribute meaningfully to the world around them.

This year, St Joseph's is working on developing our school values. This also aligns with our work in establishing whole school practices and processes for student engagement and behaviour.  You may have seen an email about having your voice heard on this topic.  I thank those families that have already responded to the survey and encourage those who haven't done so yet, to please let us know what values you feel are important for the students at our school to live by and uphold. You can access the survey at the following link https://forms.office.com/r/EL7A02fsA8 until the end of next week.

As you know, the council has erected new signs out on George St as a new 'stop, drop and go' area.  Just a reminder that this is a 'No parking' zone between the hours of 7am and 4pm. As this new change comes in, there will be a period of grace for the next few weeks so I am able to notify and remind people of the change. If you are planning on getting out of your car and entering the school, please make sure to park outside the signed area or on the other side of the road.  I thank everyone for their cooperation so far.

At St Joseph’s, a fundamental aspect of the schooling experience is the opportunity to engage in the religious life of the school through events such as liturgies, feast days, masses, and sporting carnivals. These occasions unite our school community in embracing gospel values and the legacy of Mary MacKillop, shaping our Catholic identity and fostering a shared culture. Enrolment at St Joseph’s comes with the expectation that students will participate in all school-day events unless there is a valid reason for absence. At times, children may suggest to their parents that these days lack regular class-based learning and are therefore optional—but this could not be further from the truth. These religious and community events set us apart from other schools, offering unique opportunities for holistic growth and faith-based connection.
As Principal, I firmly believe that active involvement in sporting, cultural, and extracurricular activities should be accompanied by meaningful engagement in all facets of school life. I encourage all parents and carers to ensure their children fully participate in these invaluable experiences provided by the school.

God Bless,

Michelle
