Principal's Report

Dear Community,

What a busy couple of weeks we have had here at St Joseph's.

It was pleasing to see many parents and students meet with staff to review progress at our Parent Teacher Interviews. These meetings provide opportunities for families to hear the success of their children and how they can work in partnership with the school to ensure continued growth. Central to learning in any partnership is the establishment and maintenance of strong relationships between teacher, parent/carer, and student. I thank everyone who attended and invested time.

It was also wonderful to see so many families at our Mother's Day evening last Friday night.  This night was very relaxed and an excellent way for families to connect and mingle.  A big thank you to our PPF for organising and running such a successful night.

A reminder for our families of the Toowoomba Catholic Schools recently published the Parent Code of Conduct, which can be found through this link: Parent Code of Conduct

This document clearly outlines how parents and guardians of students should conduct themselves when engaging with other members of our community. The Code complements the Staff Code of Conduct and Parent Engagement Charter which positions our school to be safe and respectful places for all.

Next week I will be in attendance at the termly Leadership Forum in Goondiwindi. Miss Ailie Lewis will be deputising in my place while I am away.

God Bless,

Michelle

From the APRE

A lot has been happening since our last newsletter.  Firstly, we celebrated our Easter Liturgy at the end of last term with a beautiful liturgy which the whole school was involved in. Through this liturgy we learnt about how Jesus sacrificed his life for the things that he believed in - he served people with integrity and humility.

At the beginning of this term, our 5/6 class lead us in liturgy for Anzac Day, focusing on the sacrifices that the soldiers made for our country and their service to Australia.

Last Friday, we our Prep/1 students presented a liturgy for Mother's Day.  They illustrated all the sacrifices our mum's make every day for us and how they are always giving to us as their children.

All of these celebrations have highlighted further our theme for this year of 'Be a servant'.  How can we help those around us and, as Mary MacKillop would say, "See and need and do something about it".

We also mourned the loss of Pope Francis - Throughout his papacy, Francis was noted for his humility, emphasis on God's mercy, international visibility,  and concern for the poor, migrants and refugees.  With the loss of Pope Francis, we also celebrate the appointment of Pope Leo as the head of the Catholic Church. We look forward to his leadership continuing to move the Catholic church forward.
