Principal's Report

Dear Community,
In Luke’s Gospel last Sunday, we heard his version of the Beatitudes, which describes the qualities particular to those belonging to the kingdom of heaven. One of those beatitudes, states “blessed are the poor for the Kingdom of God is yours. What Luke is suggesting is that material goods don’t satisfy our true hunger and desire, so it is tempting to seek out more things such as cars, homes, the latest game, holiday destinations, etc. I wonder how lucky we could all be if we were unattached to material goods.
This week, I had the opportunity to attend the introductory session about Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) with Dr Shiralee Poed from the University of Queensland. Dr Poed explained this framework and how it will be implemented in our school. This is one of the major focusses for our school with our annual goals this year. Please find some information about MTSS below.
What is MTSS?
It is an evidence-based framework designed to meet the needs of all students by ensuring that we optimise data informed decision making, progress monitoring and evidence-based supports and strategies to sustain student growth.
What to expect from MTSS
- Improved academic performance
- Reduced bullying behaviours
- Improved attendance
- Improved social-emotional competence
- Improved social and academic outcomes for students with disabilities
- Reduced office discipline referrals
- Improved teacher outcomes, school health and climate and perception of school safety.
We are looking forward to the positive impacts this framework will have on our staff, students and school community.
God Bless,
Michelle
Clean up Australia Day

From the APRE
Next week, we begin a very important time in the Church calendar - Lent.
Lent is a special time of year. It is a time of prayer, fasting and giving. As individuals we can help others, but when we come together, our good becomes great. Our combined kindness grows. And when we unite with each other – and with people living in poverty – we can create BIG, lasting change.
This Lent, St Joseph's will again be supporting the work of Caritas Australia through their Project Compassion campaign. For over 60 years, Caritas Australia has worked hand in hand with people in Australia and overseas to break the cycle of poverty. This year's theme is Let’s all Unite Against Poverty! Our Mini Vinnies Club will be running some weekly activities to help raise money for this much needed cause. You will find a list of the activities below.
On Tuesday, we will start with our annual Pancake Flip competition. Come along and watch as our students do their best to flip their pancakes in the air as high as they can and then catch them again. This will take place at 1:45pm.
On Wednesday, we will start the Lenten season with our Ash Wednesday Mass, taking place at 9:30am in the church. All are welcome to join us.
