Newsletter Term 4 Week 4
Principal's Report
Dear Community,
Another week has come and gone and this term continues to barrel along at a tremendous speed.
I was lucky enough to accompany the Year 5/6 students to their Cricket Cup last week. What a fantastic day it was. Our students showed great sportsmanship, often cheering for the other teams when they did something well - congratulating them on a great hit or a wicket. This was such a great example of our students displaying our learning behaviours of Welcoming Wagtail and Respectful Rosella - making sure that everyone had a great time and felt encouraged, even when they weren't confident. It was a pleasure to see them out there having fun and interacting so well with students from other schools.
It was my pleasure to announce last week the class structures and teachers for next year. I am confident that next year will be a great year and we are looking forward to welcoming new staff and families to our school community.
- Prep/1 - Miss Ailie Lewis
- Year 1/2 - Mr Saxon Inskip
- Year 3/4 - Miss Jessica Brierley
- Year 5/6 - Miss Georgia Tocknell
- PE and non-contact - Mrs Fiona Andrews
- German - Mrs Ina Winter
This does mean that we are losing some staff members - Miss Grace Twidale and Mr Chris Riley will be leaving us to venture to new schools. We hope that their new schools and communities bring them much joy and satisfaction. Mrs Catherine Folker will also not be returning in her role as Prep teacher on a Friday, but will continue to be part of our school community as relief staff. We will formally farewell Miss Twidale and Mr Riley at our Annual Awards Night, that is to be held on Friday 22nd November.
Next week, I will be away at Leadership Forum in Toowoomba. Mrs Twidale and Mrs Folker will be deputising in my place. I thank them for filling this role while I am away.
God Bless,
Michelle

Award's Night Friday 22nd November 2024
From the APRE
This Friday we will celebrate World Teacher's Day. The Year 3/4/5/6 class will lead us in a liturgy straight after assembly. Our teachers make a difference everyday in the lives of our students, so on Friday, we say 'Hat's off' to our teachers for all that they do!
Next week, we will also come together for mass to celebrate All Saints Day. This will be held at 9:00am in the Church. We also have Family Mass on Sunday 3rd November.
Mark 10: 52 – 53
Jesus said to him, “Your faith has saved and healed you.” In that very instant the blind man recovered his sight and followed Jesus down the road.
In the Gospel this week we learn it is okay to ask Jesus for what we want. After all, Jesus asked the blind man “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man got exactly what he asked for; he got his sight. Sometimes we don’t get exactly what we ask for and it may be awhile before we understand why God didn’t seem to answer our prayer. Other times, we may get what we asked for, but it comes in a very different way than we imagined it would. God cares about us and wants what is best for us and sometimes that means not giving us what we think we want. It’s like a parent who won’t feed their child donuts every day for breakfast even if that’s what the child asks for because their parent knows it’s not good for the child. Keep asking God for what you need, and trust that God knows what is best for you.
Loving Lord, teach me how to pray in a way that doesn’t only ask for what I want, but that will teach me what you want for me.
When I pray, do I find myself praying only for my own concerns or do I also pray for those around me who have greater needs? (e.g. the poor and forgotten)
Justice Challenge
Next week we celebrate Halloween. We often focus on treats and tricks when we celebrate this day. Your challenge this week is to find a positive way to share treats with someone who doesn’t get treated very often. If you have children in your family, have each child carry a second bag or plastic container for treats for the homeless or those who need help with food as you go house to house. Ask people to donate treats to them. If you don’t have children, buy extra treats and bring them to a shelter or pantry so the less fortunate can have a happy Halloween, too.
Year 1/2
This term so far in 1/2
This term our English unit is “What do you call your Grandma” we are looking at descriptive language and how we can use creative writing to create and describe different aspects of our personal appearance and personality.
In Maths the students have been working hard on number facts, patterns, rules, shapes along with addition and subtraction strategies preparing them for year 2 and 3 next year.
Students have been enjoying learning about materials in science and how we can change them. We have been twisting, bending, stretching and snapping all types of things. In HASS we are learning about family structures along with how roles within the family have changed from years ago to present day.
It has been encouraging seeing students reach reading goals and performing well in assessment already done in maths and HASS. We look forward to getting through this busy period and finishing off the year with Christmas celebrations.
Regards,
Saxon Inskip

Student News
Well done to our Year 5/6 students on their participation at the Central Downs Cricket Cup last Wednesday. The students played in two teams - the Sixers and the Renegades. All students played well and showed great enthusiasm and sportsmanship. Each team played 4 games against other schools in the district. Congratulations to the Sixers who were undefeated on the day. Well done also to Bella Klein, James Kelly, Luke Kirby and Heidi Sanders who were selected as the best players from their teams.
Well done also to all of the students who have participated in ICAS tests at the end of last term. These tests are quite difficult and are an added extra to the curriculum that students can choose to participate in. A special congratulations to the following students who achieved some high results in these tests.

PPF News
Hi everyone
As we close in on the end of the year the PPF would like to say a huge thank you to anyone who has helped with events, raffles, tuckshop etc this year! Especially recently with the Camp oven festival, this was a huge event that we could not have pulled off without the people that volunteered!
At our last meeting we had a look over what the PPF have donated money to this year and are extremely happy and proud to say we have donated over $11,000 to resources and things for the school and students so far! We will continue to do this and would love the support of more families attending meetings and bringing new ideas to the table.
Our Melbourne Cup Luncheon is coming up and we hope most people can make it for a great event.
Thanks

Tips for High School
Being Organised
Print out multiple timetables
Timetables are lists that tell you where and when you need to go to get to your class. Stick them to things you can’t lose like folders or workbooks. Keep a copy in your pencil case and bag as a backup.
Make sure you can find the front office
The people at the front office will be able to help you with were you need to be if you get confused.
Have a map of the school
A map will help you find where you need to go, or at least find your way back to the front office.
Keeping Up with Study
Homework club
Find out if your school has a homework club that meets before or after school (or sometimes at lunch) and go to this if you can.
Find some study buddies
Find people doing the same subjects as you and do homework as a group. This is more motivating, keeps you organised, and you can help each other.
Print out Term Planners
Many subjects/classes with have a Term Planner which has a list of what topics you will be studying each week. Print these out and stick this in your workbook for the subject. This helps you prepare and know what you missed if you were away.
Look over what you will be leaning before you get to class
This will help get your brain ready to learn. The more times you look at work the better you will remember it. It also allows you to find out what the hard parts are, so you have time to get help with these.
Ask for Revision Tests
A “Revision Test” or “Practice Test” is a test very similar to a real test coming up. These are the best way to study for a test. Sometimes teachers give them to the whole class before a test, sometimes you might need to ask.
Managing Stress
Have strategies to let stress out
Make sure you have some (at least 2-3) strategies/activities to let stress out (e.g., that are fun or relaxing) that you can do at school (e.g., read a book, do colouring/drawing, go for run, kick a ball etc.). Make sure you have a strategy you can use in class as well (e.g., deep beathing/5 finger breathing/diaphragmatic breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, positive self-talk etc.)
Learn more about stress management
Programs like https://www.momentumhub.org.au/ are free and have great tools to learn more about managing stress, anxiety and mood.
Make sure you have someone to talk to about stress
Have a list of safe people you plan to talk to when you get stressed (e.g., parents/guardians, grandparents, extended family etc.). Talk to someone before you go over 5/10 stressed; don’t wait until you are at 7/10 or 8/10 stressed or you can become overwhelmed. Counsellors at https://kidshelpline.com.au/ (1800 55 1800) are always available to chat and are happy to talk about anything no matter how big or small. If you haven’t called or (or text chatted) with Kids Helpline before, try contacting them with your parents/guardians first so everyone knows how it works.
Thanks Mr Chris
