Newsletter Term 4 Week 2
Principal's Report
Dear Community,
Welcome back to Term 4. This is always a very busy time of the year with lots of events happening. Attached below is the calendar of events for this term, for your reference.
Last week I spent the week with the 5/6 students on camp. It was a great week and the students displayed our school learning behaviours across the week in the many activities they participated in. One of the hardest activities was canoeing as the weather turned bad quickly and it was very scary and difficult to paddle. We had many students capsize their canoes and struggle to paddle out of the gorge, going against the wind. It was here that I witnessed many students being very courageous, persistent, curious and respectful as they tried to help and encourage each other out of this very trying and difficult situation. The good thing was that even though they were all tired, a bit frustrated and angry, cold and wet, they all had a smile on their face at the end and were able to articulate what they saw from the other students around them that helped them through. Some fantastic lessons were learned that day.
Following up from that, the weekend saw us participate in the Camp Oven Festival. I firstly want to thank the PPF for all their hard work behind the scenes to get everything organised for the weekend. Secondly I would like to sincerely thank all of the families who helped out across the weekend, whether it be baking, cooking the BBQ, making sandwiches, serving or helping to clean and pack up, we could not have done it without you all. Thank you for giving up your time and energy to help out our school.
I look forward to the term ahead and sharing in our student successes with you all at our annual Award's Night.
God Bless,
Michelle

Over the next few weeks, we will celebrate Mission Month. Earlier in Term 2, Mary MacKillop Catholic College spent some time with our 5/6 students talking about the work of Mission Australia and gave them some great ideas of things they can do during this month to raise awareness for living conditions in other countries around the world. Our Mini Vinnies Club will be running some activities at lunch to do with Mission Month. We look forward to seeing what they have planned. This morning, some of our Year 6 students attended the lauch of Mission Month liturgy at St Stephen's in Pittsworth. The Bishop led us in the liturgy and talked to the students about the importance of the word 'mission' and what our different missions are in our lives. Thank you to our Year 6 students for representing our school with pride. There were many comments about how well they all read.
In a few weeks time, the 3/4/5/6 class will lead us in a liturgy for World Teacher's Day. Our teachers make a difference everyday in the lives of our students and without them continuously striving to make a positive difference, our students wouldn't be where they are today. We look forward to celebrating our wonderful teachers on this day.

Year 5/6
Our Term started off really well, with a trip to Lake Moogerah for our annual school camp. Over the week the students enjoyed canoeing, dragon boating, hiking, archery and mountain biking. They also enjoyed many night activities and laughs along the way. For many students, this was their first time away from home for an extended period of time and all students should be congratulated on how they behaved and handled some of the situations that they were faced with across the week. We had a wonderful time away.
