Newsletter Term 2 Week 6
Principal's Report
Dear Community,
Over the past 10 weeks, I have had the pleasure of rehearsing some students for Singfest. On Friday night I had the privelege of watching these students perform their concert and was able to lead them, along with Miss Twidale in performing our school song of 'True Colours'. I must say that they were absolutley amazing and did themselves and St Joseph's proud. A credit to their hard work and dedication over the past 10 weeks. As it is with any activity, I saw many examples of our students displaying our school Learning Behaviours. There were some great examples of 'Persistent Parakeet's' and 'Corageous Corella's' and many students who proved to themselves that they were able to do things, that they perceived were quite difficult for them. It was an honour to be involved with this group of students and to see them all shine on Friday night.
Next week, will be another place for our students to shine, when we hold our annual athletics carnival. This is always a great day to come together as a school community and cheer each other on with a bit of friendly rivalry, fighting for the house trophy. On this day also, we regonsise a student or students who display great 'spirit'. The qualities we look for on the day are:
- Enjoyment in what they are doing
- Always have a smile on their face
- Good sportspersonship
- Congratulating others when they do well
- Cheering for their house
- Participating in all events
- Being happy with their achievements
These qualities are consistent with the messages that we teach the students through our Learning Behaviours; being confident in what you are doing, sharing in the success of others, being grateful and staying calm when things are tricky or don't go our way. I look forward to seeing everyone compete next week and showcase not just their sporting talents, but their spirit also.
God Bless,
Michelle
From the APRE
Thank you to our Prep students who led us in a beautiful liturgy for Mother's Day. It is always such a lovely liturgy that our mother's, grandmother's and special women in our lives enjoy greatly. Thank you to all those who came along and celebrated with us.
Next week is Reconciliation Week. Reconciliation Week's theme this year is 'Now more than ever". Reconciliation Week is a good time to think about how we as a school can reconcile with First Australians, including training on cultural awareness or knowledges.
To help support understanding of what it means to take action now to make change in the future, talk about ‘What we do today was once what we hoped and planned for the future. What actions or decisions are you making today that you'll be proud of in the future?’
Topic starters could include:
Think about a person or event from the past that you admire for positively shaping the current state of reconciliation in your school, community, or nationally. What did they achieve, and when? How is their legacy remembered? How have they inspired others?
What does a reconciled future look, feel and sound like? What is your personal, or your school community’s vision for reconciliation? How does this vision reflect the perspectives and aspirations of the local First Nations community?
What is one step that you or your school can do now towards your vision for reconciliation?
Year 1/2 News
Hey Everyone!
Welcome from year 1/2 to the start of Term 2. Its almost half way through the year already, it's amazing how fast time has gone. The year 1/2’s have been at work ticking boxes and working hard towards looming assessment.
In English we have moved on from short story and narrative writing and are working towards poetry. The class has been exploring different types of poems such as acrostic poems, shape poems and couplets. We are exploring a few authors this term, one in particular are the works of Julia Donaldson and the students are loving the animated series on ABCiView using Zog and Stickman as a poetic example of couplets. It has been so lovely to see students engage with different text types and enjoy new concepts in the English curriculum.
In Maths we have finished our money unit with students enjoying the use of real money to match prices in catalogues and challenge each other with money questions. We enjoyed fractions this week using playdough to show halves, quarters, and eighths. Getting hands on with physical media is always a good way to relate “paper based maths” to real life situations.
In Religion, we are exploring the life and times of Jesus over 2000 years ago. We are finding the lives of people in the past to be very interesting, and in one students words “so boring, there was no TV!”
Science has been particularly exciting this term with SPACE! We are working through planets, the size of things in space, the night sky and what makes day and night.
Thanks

PPF News
Hi Everyone,
We would firstly like to say a huge thank you to all the families for your donations and ticket sales for the Mothers day raffle. Our raffle was a huge success with receiving over $2,000 to go towards various items for the school and students need.
Also a reminder we have a couple of different events coming up, firstly the Athletic's carnival on Friday 31st May. The PPF will be running the canteen like we do each year, it would be greatly appreciated if anyone could spare some time to help out so all the parents get a chance to watch their children in the events. We also greatly appreciate help with setting up and cleaning up after these events.
Our second event is our Cent sale on Saturday 8th June at the Cultural centre. We have been receiving some great prizes from local businesses and would love to see you all attend and enjoy dinner for a great night out 🙂
Please RSVP to Taylah as per the attached flyer, so we can try to work out a rough idea for food.
An updated Tuckshop menu has also been sent out in regards to changes that we have had to make with the increased prices of food and to make things a little easier on our volunteers. Billie Sinclair has also finished up as our tuckshop convenor, Taylah Willett has taken over. We thank Billie for all her hard work and to Taylah for taking the role on so that our students can still enjoy tuckshop every Monday. We are always needing as many helpers as possible with tuckshop so if you can help please let Taylah know.
Lastly, our next PPF meeting will be held on Wednesday 22nd May in the hall starting at 5pm, please come along or join the online link that gets sent out via the Sentral app.
Thanks
