Newsletter Term 2 Week 2
Principal's Report
Dear Community,
Welcome back to Term 2. I trust that you all had a resftul and rewarding break and are ready for the term ahead. Term 2 is certainly going to be a busy time for us.
Term Dates
Please see further below in 'Date claimers', a calendar of all the improtant events for this term. Please remember this is correct at the time of this notification and that events are subject to change.
Parent Engagement Charter (Code of Conduct)
The Toowoomba Catholic Schools Parent Engagement Charter is attached below. It describes the partnership that exists between families and the school and is an agreement between parent, school and Toowoomba Catholic Schools. This begins when an enrolment has been accepted and continues until its completion. I strongly encourage you all to read this document, especially noting the final page of conduct expectations for both staff and parents.
Uniform
A reminder that the school has a uniform policy which is to be followed by all students, unless a discussion and short-term agreement has occurred between the principal and parent. The uniform policy can be found on our website. We expect all parents to support the school with ensuring all students are wearing the correct uniform. Please ensure that all items of clothing, including jumpers and hats, are labelled with your child’s name. This will ensure that items of clothing are returned to their rightful owner if found.
Attendance
Every day counts and therefore it is an expectation that students attend school regularly, and for the full school day. Notifying the school about your child’s absence should be done through the Parent Portal or by phoning the school office.
Communication
We believe that good communication is the key to success for your child. If there is something worrying you about your child’s learning or well-being or if there has been changes at home which may be affecting your child, please ensure you contact your child’s teacher or myself to discuss this. Even if you feel it is a small issue, please let us know.
Communication Channels
Parent Portal – is used for whole school and whole class notifications, absences, activity permissions, report card distributions, parent/teacher interview bookings, fortnightly newsletters
Facebook – is used for wider-community advertising of the school and school events
Email – is used for individual communications between parent and school, distribution of account statements.
Emails are to be brief – a phone call or meeting is best if there is an important issue.
Communication Protocols
All forms of communication relating to the school are expected to be respectful and safe. Staff will be able to respond to communication within 48 hours and between the hours of (8.00am and 4:30pm) weekdays. Urgent matters can be directed through the office. Emails are to be brief – a phone call or meeting is best if there is an important issue.
The staff are very excited for Term 2 and what is in store for our community.
God Bless,
Michelle
From the APRE
Welcome back to Term 2. I want to start off by saying a huge thank you the Mini Vinnies Club for their efforts last term. They did a tremendous amount of work over the term organising activities for the students to participate in to raise money for Project Compassion. Their efforts ended up raising over $1600 for Caritas. This is the most money we have ever raised and is a testament to their hard work and dedication.
Thank you to the 5/6 class for leading us in a lovely Anzac Liturgy on Wednesday. Anzac Day is such an important day in our calendar, to remind us of the values of service to each other, another reminder of our Mary MacKillop values.
Next Sunday, at 9:30am, we will celebrate our first Family Mass for the year. We would love to welcome everyone along to come and celebrate with us.
Anzac Day
Prep News
Hi everyone!
I hope you have all had a great start back to the term 😊 As this is such a jam packed term, we have jumped straight into learning, and the Preppies have coped with this very well!
First of all, I would like to say I was so proud of the Preppies at the ANZAC day! They sang and sat in their chairs so well!
In English this term, we are continuing to focus on reading and writing. To assist in the reading process, this term, I have started literacy rotations in our classroom. We have three differing rotations (with the assistance of Miss Amelia and Mrs Twidale). One group is doing dictation or an independent alphabet worksheet, one group is revising their letters and writing words, and one group is reading a book to Miss Twidale. The students are really enjoying this and I can definitely see them progressing which is fantastic!
We will be completing reading testing from Week 7 in the term – so it is very important that your children are reading every night. Please use the Spelld decodable readers to assist with this (the readers sent home at the beginning of the term). And please remember to also send back the book with the signed slip so the students can move onto the next level. It is also highly beneficial for your children to continuously practice their alphabet sounds so please do this too!
In Maths, the students are continuing to learn the numbers up to 10 (5 to 10), addition, subtraction, days of the week and patterns. In Health, the students will be learning about the Zones of Regulation, identifying how they feel in each learn, and learning about strategies they can use to get out of this particular zone. The students complete Science and HASS with Mrs Folker on a Friday. In Science, the students will be learning about moving objects, and in HASS, they will be learning about celebrations. I always here great feedback about what the students are learning with Mrs Folker so I am sure they will enjoy this!
We will continue to do Chef of the Week this term 😊 The students absolutely love Chef of the Week and it is a great way to help them gain confidence, show off their writing to the parents and of course, enjoy food. We are looking forward to more treats this term!
This term, the Mother’s Day Liturgy will be coming up on the 10th of May. All students have a speaking part so please continue practicing this with your children!
The Preppies are such an awesome class and I am very blessed to be teaching them this year 😊 Keep up the great work at home!
Kind Regards,
Grace

Gore Hwy Cross Country
Well done to all of our students on their efforts with Gore Hwy cross country last week. Our students represented our school with pride and all competed really well. We did so well in fact, that we came away with the tropy! Congratulations to Harlen, Des, Darby, Felicity and Heidi, who have all been selected to attend Inner Downs Cross Country Trials next week. Best of luck to you all.
Anzac Day
Congratulations to all of the students, staff and families who proudly represented our school at the Millmerran Anzac March. We had a wonderful turnout and the students did an amazing job at performing on the stage. We had many lovely comments from the community about how well they all did. What a credit they are to themselves and the school. Thank you to Miss Twidale and all of the staff for their work in preparing the students for the day.
