Newsletter Term 1 Week 6
Principal's Report
Dear Community,
Firstly I want to thank everyone for their patience with the new pick up arrangements. The students are now getting better with the routine and it is flowing much better. I also want to thank you all for making sure you let us know of a change in pick up arrangements.
All of our classes have now settled well into their routines and are making great learning progress. This year we have a focus on the new Diocesean Approach to Reading. This is tweaking what has happened over the past few years in relation to reading, writing and spelling to be in line with the new version of the curriculum. Our teachers have been working with our Education Officer, Sue Keefer, to plan and deliver quality lessons in line with the new approach. Our focus for this year is working on our phonics and spelling, especially with the implementation of our new phonics program 'UFLI'. You may have seen a change in some of the homework tasks, as we work to make sure our students are being the best learners they can be.
Over the next few weeks we will be focussing on our Learning Behaviour of 'Respectful Rosella'. This is one of the biggest learning behaviours as there are many parts to it. It connects to our school rules of keeping our hands, feet and objects to ourselves, speaking kindly and politely to others and following directions straight away. With this learning behaviour we also focus on being thankful, making sure we are giving the other members of our class the opportunity to learn and celebrating the successes of others around us. The Mary MacKillop quote that is tied to this learning behaviour is 'We are all but travellers here.' This is a beautiful quote that put simply means: Will the world be a happier place for our having passed through it? We continue to work through and teach students what does this look like in the classroom, what does it look like in the playground and what can we do to always be 'Respectful Rosella's'
God Bless,
Michelle

Year 1/2 News
Hey everyone!
We are already half way through the term! Doesn’t time fly!?
We have had an exciting start to the year with our year 1-2 class. We have welcomed the newest member of our class family, the brand-new fridge and it is settling in nicely – thank you PPF! The students have been hard at work getting into class routines and school work which has been great to see. We finished our handwriting for the show this week and can’t wait to have it displayed over the weekend.
The students have been enjoying exploring story books such as Roald Dahl’s “Fantastic Mr Fox” and Andy Griffiths ‘Tree-house’ series. Through the English unit this term students have written recaps, letters, opinions and more. Its so encouraging to see students so engaged in text, reading and writing.
Maths and Science has seen us explore place value into the hundreds, part part whole and using different strategies to solve simple number equations. It has been so great to see students use these strategies without direction and on their own to achieve answers to sums. We are working towards becoming independent learners and using tools we have learnt to problem solve on our own!
In HASS we are learning about the past, how it affects us now, stories, and objects from the past known as “artifacts”. The students were excited to watch video of flooding in the Millmerran area and see points of interest underwater which they recognised.
We would all like to thank the students, parents, and community for being so hands on and supportive of staff absences and short notice changes. Students have been amazing at adapting to change!
Thanks – Saxon Inskip

Tuckshop News
Hi Everyone ,
Wow how crazy that we are already in week 6 for Term 1! I hope all your kids are enjoying the tuckshop so far. I have noticed this year tuckshop is a lot busier and a bit more hectic for just 2 volunteers, so I am looking into if anyone has any of the last dates we have available to add a third person on for each Monday? If so please let me know either at school or via b.harber1994@live.com!
Next term I am also looking at dropping some of the items back to half options as it seems to be a little too much for some of the kids to get through. We are always open to different options or ideas for the menu.
Thanks so much to everyone who has put their names down to help out so far I truly appreciate all your help!
Enjoy the rest of the term
