Newsletter Term 1 Week 8
Principal's Report

Dear Community,
Welcome to the latest edition of the St Joseph’s newsletter. We have had an extremely busy couple of weeks here at St Joseph’s, with many exciting activities taking place. Congratulations to our Mini Vinnies students who have been working hard to successfully fundraise for Project Compassion. Now more than ever as we look at the events unfolding around the world, it is important that we stop and reflect on how lucky we are and to offer what we can to those less fortunate.
Mrs Lisa Crellin started in the administration officer position this week, I know you will all make her feel very welcome. Lisa is a past parent of our school and already has a very positive relationship with our school community. I know you will all join with me in congratulating her on her appointment.
EFTPOS
The school now has EFTPOS facilities available!! We will be able to accept card payments in the office for school fees, bookfair etc. This is very exciting and was identified as a facility that we were lacking in. I hope this makes our communities lives just that little bit easier! The PPF will also be able to utilise this during their events.
Meet the Teacher / PPF Welcome BBQ
With COVID restrictions easing we will be able to go ahead with the welcome BBQ evening on Friday the 22nd of April. This is a great event that allows parents to meet socially with other parents and with school staff. The format of the evening will be slightly different to previous years, with the more ‘formal’ aspects of the night having been already covered through email and other forms of communication, so it will be a very social evening! Look forward to catching up with you all there.
PPF AGM
Special thank you to our outgoing PPF executive who have done a wonderful job in ensuring the PPF continues its wonderful work in raising money for the students of St Joseph’s. A big thank you to those who have accepted positions on the new PPF. I know you will continue to do a wonderful job.
Our PPF are invaluable to the school, and we could not operate without the wonderful support they provide us. If you are able to help out our PPF, even in the smallest of ways, I know they would love to hear from you.
Uniform Working Party
Thank you to the uniform working party for your work in guiding our uniform review. All families will receive a link to an online survey outlining some options for the ‘direction’ of our uniform. Please complete this survey, as this will provide our uniform working party with guidance moving forward.
Have a wonderful last few weeks of school.
God Bless,
Mr Lawson Short.
From the APRE

Hello Everyone,
Last week on Friday, we celebrated our Opening Mass and induction of our student leaders for 2022. We congratulate Samuel, Haylea and Dominic and know that they are going to be wonderful leaders for our school this year, shining their light for all to see.
Thank you once again to the Mini Vinnies Club for their continued efforts with their fundraising for Project Compassion. Last week's activity was a lot of fun, even though the rain disrupted our plans a little bit. Tomorrow, we are looking forward to a water fun day.
Mini Vinnies is also asking families to donate items for their Easter Raffle. Tickets will go on sale next week and the raffle will be drawn on the last day of term, after our Easter Liturgy.
Tomorrow we will celebrate St Joseph's Day. St Joseph is the patron saint of our school. The Year 2/3 class will lead us at mass at 9:00am in the church. After this we will have assembly at 10:00am, where we will present the Mary MacKillop award for the month of February. All are welcome.
God Bless,
Michele
A Prayer to Saint Joseph
St. Joseph,
watch over me
and care for me
just as you cared for
the child Jesus;
and by your help,
may I come to know
your Son,
and so grow
in strength
and wisdom
and the favor of God.
Amen.

Prep/1
Wow! I can’t believe we are already in week 8 of Term One. We have been doing some amazing learning in Prep/One.
In English, we have been studying the book “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?”. We are now getting to write and illustrate our own book which we have titled “Rainbow Bunny, Rainbow Bunny, What do you see?”. I’m so excited to read our final story.
In Maths, we have been doing lots of work on our numbers and we have been learning to subitise (look at a group of objects and say how many there are without counting). Preps are working on numbers to 6 and Year Ones are subitising all the way to 20!
In HASS, we have been learning all about families then and now and how they change over time. We have been loving learning about everyone’s families and learning about how families live in other parts of the world.
During PMP time, we have been practicing for cross country. Our fitness has already improved so much and most of us are able to run 2+ laps of the oval!!
There have been some amazing friendships bloom in Prep/One over the last six weeks and it is so beautiful to see the relationships grow!

Year 2/3
Hi parents, friends, and St Joey’s community.
We are fast approaching the end of Term One, and with that brings a couple of very busy weeks ahead!
The students in 2/3 have been very busy in all subject areas, continuing our discussions and exploration into some different religious perspectives. We have continued our work with number, place, addition, and subtraction this term, we have delved deep into narrative writing and how to include further detail to our characters, settings, and storylines.
Our work in HASS has the 2/3 students very excited for their excursion to the museum next week. We have discussed a wide range of historical artefacts. So, it will be great to see some in person and to learn what the past was like.
The P-3 students have been hitting the pavement hard the last few weeks in preparation for cross country in week 10. Each morning they have been enjoying a run around and building their fitness and resilience with long distance running. I think each morning they can almost add an extra half a lap around the oval to their previous best, which is great progress.
We have plenty more on in the final two weeks of school inside and outside the classroom, so I think they will all be ready for a two week break very soon.
Have a great couple of weeks,
Mitchell Albury

Year 4/5/6
It is reaching the pointy end of the term now, where we begin to work on our assessment of our learning for the term. Over the next two weeks, students will be working hard in class to complete assessment tasks to show their learning over the past term.
In English, we will be working on character profiles of Herbie and Violet - the main characters from the book we have been reading this term. We will also be working on writing fantasy stories and developing characters and settings for these stories.
In Maths, we continue to work on all things place value including representing numbers, money, factors, multiples, prime and composite numbers.
Last Thursday, we were lucky enough to have Jen, the school guidance counsellor, come and talk to our class about resilence and persistance and what to do when work gets difficult. It was a great session and we hope to see the students using some of the strategies and tools she talked about in her session.
On Tuesday, we had Cooper, Will and Ryan attend Inner Downs Rugby League Trials. The boys did themselves and our school proud and played well. Congratulations to Ryan who has been selected to go on and play in Stanthorpe on Monday. We wish you the best of luck.

PPF News
Thank you to all who were able to attend the PPF AGM and first general meeting on Tuesday night.
A very warm welcome to the new 2022 PPF Executive:
President – Kass Clark and Katie Battisson
Vice President – Kelsee Huth
Secretary – Fiona Andrews
Finance Coordinator – Marg Gaske
Events Manager – Kelsee Huth
The PPF meets once a month. All families, old and new, are very welcome to attend the meetings, which are generally held each third Tuesday of the month. The meetings are a chance for all school community members to have a say about varying issues regarding our wonderful school and to contribute new ideas to fundraising events. The meetings are also a great way for new families of our school to become involved and socialise with existing families. New ideas are always very welcome.
The first social event for our families to enjoy will be a BBQ dinner/meet the teachers, which will be held on Friday 22nd April at the school. More details will become available over the coming weeks. Be sure to put it in your calendar, as it is a great way to welcome our new families and catch up with the old.
Please come along to the next PPF general meeting, which will be held Tuesday 26th April at 5.30pm, in the school hall. All are welcome!
Library News
This term in the library, we have been focusing on choosing great books to read for pleasure. Each week we have looked at a different type of book … we have had books about sport, books about pets, books about maths etc. Last week when reading all different books about sport … stories and information books … we participated in some Minute-to-win-it activities.
In one minute, we had to see how many card houses we could build, how many times we could up-stack and down-stack 6 cups, how many ping pong balls we could bounce into an egg carton, how many times could we pinch our nose and ear (swapping hands each time), and how many Cheerios we could thread onto a pipe cleaner to make a Cheerio bracelet.
We had great fun with our Minute-to-win-it activities and found lots of great books to borrow so we can continue to practice our reading.
