Newsletter Term 3 Week 2
Principal's Report
Dear Parents and Community,
Welcome to our first newsletter of Term 3! This term is gearing up to be another busy, exciting, and action-packed term. We will be celebrating Catholic Education Week next week, with mass, Grandparent’s Day and a shared morning tea. Friday is a pupil-free day, with staff attending the culminating event for Catholic Education Week, the Bishop’s Inservice PD, which is being held in Toowoomba.
We have a number of sporting events happening this term as well, with Inner Downs Athletics, Darling Downs Football Trials and Darling Downs Athletics.
In Week 5 St Joseph’s will be hosting the termly Principal Forum. This is a great opportunity for us to showcase our wonderful school to all 32 Principals in the Toowoomba Diocese, plus to the staff within the Toowoomba Catholic Schools Office.
Our big event this term will be the St Joseph’s Musical, which will be held on Friday 8th September. The students have been working very hard on this, in class, and in their own time. It will certainly be a spectacular show! A massive thank you to Mrs Sanders for the many hours of her own time that she has put into organising this wonderful opportunity for our students. I know it is greatly appreciated by students, staff, and parents alike.
Our new School Counsellor Chris Byrne has settled in well, and he has been doing whole class sessions with students, particularly around the zones of regulation.
Chris’ bio………
It’s great to come on board as the new school counsellor. I grew up on a farm outside Pallamallawa (near Moree) and originally went to university in Armidale studying psychology, maths, electronics and IT. Since then, I obtained my teaching qualifications and have worked as a maths/science teacher at high school, a teacher aide at primary school, and a tutor at university.
I have only lived in Toowoomba for the last three years after moving across from the Gold Coast to enrol in a Master of Clinical Psychology program. As part of my training, I had the pleasure of being a school counsellor at St Mary’s College Toowoomba for a semester, and I am excited to once again be working as part of the Catholic Education team. I am a life-long learner, an avid science-fiction and fantasy reader, and am looking forward to getting to meet everyone over the coming days and weeks.
At the end of last term, we celebrated School Officer and Services Staff Day. This special day is set aside to recognise and honour the invaluable work and contribution of school officers and services staff to the progress and culture of our school communities. We are truly blessed by the quality of our school officers and service staff. They are vital to our school community. Whether they are working in the front office, working in classrooms, cleaning, mowing or providing administrative support, they are all valued and important to our school. The nature of their roles has changed significantly in recent years and now requires highly specialised skills and capabilities.
Our school officers and services staff go above and beyond their duties and we are very grateful for their contributions to St Joseph’s.
Have a great term!!
Until next time…….God Bless!

Year Two
Dear Parents and Friends,
Welcome back to Term Three! I hope everyone had a great and relaxing holiday. Year Two’s have come back eager to start a new term of learning and have already engaged in some great tasks.
In English, we have been planning and writing about our holidays. We made a “writing hamburger” to plan what we wanted to write before we got to draft it. It has been so great looking at all their amazing holidays! In Math’s, we are going to be covering a few new topics this term. We have started with measurement. It is so fun measuring all different objects and comparing length, capacity, and mass. In Science this term, we are going to be learning about sound and how sound is made. In HASS, we will be learning about how people and places are connected and how places can be shown geographically. In Religion, we will be learning all about creation and making connections to our world.
At the end of last term, we started learning our songs for the musical. We have already jumped straight back into it with doing lots more. We have been working so hard on our songs and dances and we are so excited to perform them on stage at the end of this term!
Thankyou
Lauren Grant

Musical Update
We are now only 8 weeks away from performing our school musical. Lots of work has been happening behind the scenes with props, sets and costuming. A very big thank you to the parents who have volunteered their time and resources to make sets for us, it is very much appreciated.
Tickets for the musical will go on sale in a couple of weeks. All bookings will be online via Trybooking. This will allow you to choose the seats you want.
A reminder that all costumes need to be at school by Friday 25th August and should be on a coathanger with your child's name. If yours is ready to go, please bring it in as soon as possible as that will allow us time to get other bits and pieces sorted.
We can't wait for you all to see what the students have put together and how hard they have been working over the past two terms.
All things musical
Student Success
Well done to Josephine Wise and Heidi Sanders who competed at the Darling Downs Rugby League Trials this week. Both girls played well and gave it their all in some very tough matches. Congratulations to Heidi who has been selected as a shadow player for the Darling Downs Team. Heidi will now train as part of the Darling Downs Team with the possibility of competing at the State Titles in Townsville in September.
In a few weeks, Bella Sese and Mrs Sanders will perform in Pittsworth Amateur Theartrical Society's production of 'The Wizard of Oz'. Bella and Mrs Sanders have been rehearsing since March and will be performing 4 shows across two weekends. Come along and support them and watch this wonderful, family show.
From the APRE
Welcome back to Term 3. This is always one of our busiest terms with Litugies, masses and celebrations. We have a number of events coming up in the next few weeks. We started the first day of term with a very important event in our diocese - the installation of the new Bishop - Bishop Ken Howell. We had four leaders attend this service who represented our school extremely well.
Next week, we will celebrate Catholic Education Week. The theme for this year is 'Communities of Faith, Hope and Love'. We will celebrate by inviting our grandparents to come and join us for activities and morning tea on Wednesday. This will be followed by mass at 12:00pm. Everyone is welcome to attend. The 5/6 students also have a visit from Mini Vinnies next week, to work on some social justice issues and ways we can tackle these problems.
In week 5 of this term, St Joseph's will host the Leadership Forum. Our school is responsible for Mass on Tuesday evening at 5:30pm. I will be requiring a number of students to participate in the mass. A note about this will be sent out via Sentral in the next week. This same day is also the feast day of Mary MacKillop. We will celebrate as we always do with our annual Mary MacKillop Fun Day Celebrations. Start collecting your 20c coins for our day, so your child can come and enjoy the fun and games. All money raised will go to 'Mission of Mercy', Father Thomas' charity.
God Bless,
Michele Sanders
