Newsletter Term 2 Week 2
Principal's Report
Dear Community,
We are certainly well into the swing of things in Term 2 with a number of events already taken place, and classroom learning well under way.
ANZAC DAY
A massive congratulations to the whole St Joseph’s community for your efforts on ANZAC Day. All students represented the school with great honour and gave the day the respect that it deserves. I was very honoured to have been approached by several community members who expressed how impressed they were with the students of St Joseph’s for their behaviour, reverence, participation and reading on the day. The whole school choir did a fantastic job also and is another example of the impressive way we include all students, across all year levels in activities here at St Joseph’s. Well done to all those who were able to attend the day!
Changes to School Pick Up Persons
In the interest of student safety and for our legal duty of care obligations, we ask that if anyone who is not listed as a pick up for students / there are changes in pick up arrangements on a specific day, could parents please notify the school office so this can be recorded within our system.
Being a small school, and small community, there are often times when pick up persons may vary, and this is totally fine. For our duty of care, if there is a change, this must come from the designated parent/contact. If there is a change, and we have not been notified, we will contact the parents to check this, before students can leave. Again, this isn’t because we don’t believe that it is correct etc, but for our legal responsibility, we must get this permission directly from parent contacts.
School Absences
Could all student absences please be via teacher email, in person/over the phone to the school office, or via the Sentral for parents app. Classroom Facebook are not monitored throughout the day, and we have missed some absences when reported via this medium.
Until next newsletter,
God Bless.

Year 2 News
Dear Parents and Friends,
Welcome to Term 2 of 2023! I can’t believe we are already in the second week of this term.
We had so much fun at the end of last term when we visited the Millmerran Museum. We really enjoyed learning about all our local artefacts and cool facts. Our favourite exhibit was the water baby! We thought it was so interesting learning about its history.
This term we have already jumped straight into some amazing learning. In Math’s, we are looking at multiplication using repeated addition, arrays and grouping concrete material. The Year Two’s have been doing an amazing job and engaging really well with all lessons.
In English, we are learning about procedure writing. Last week, we wrote a procedure for a pasta hair man and then we got to make one! This was really fun trying to follow our instructions to make something.
This term we have also started our footsteps dance program, which we won during last year’s “Matific Olympiad”. Last week we learnt our first dance called “hot, hot, hot” and it was so much fun. We are really excited to see what other amazing dances we will learn this term!
As the weather cools down, we have decided to utilize our space between our classroom and the library. We have made an outdoor learning space! We have loved using it so far and can’t wait to keep learning in it.
Until next time,
Lauren Grant

PE News
Hi everyone, and welcome back to Term Two!
This term, we were lucky enough to start our PE sessions with two weeks of AFL Auskick. Last week and this week, we have had Lara and Jasmine from AFL Auskick come out and run the PE lessons and teach the students lots of fun games and skills to do with AFL. The students have really enjoyed themselves, learnt lots of skills, and showed excellent behaviour and manners towards our visitors.
Many of the students have told me that their parents have signed up for them to do the Auskick lessons, which is great! If you are unsure about the details of this, information is as follows. Students will participate in four lessons, run by Lara and Jasmine from AFL Auskick, on Mondays, starting from Monday the 8th of May. These lessons will be held at St Joseph’s during lunchtimes, so will not impact class time or require students to be dropped anywhere etc. The cost is $40 per student, and parents can sign them up using the flyer that was sent home last week. If you have misplaced your flyer, please contact the school office for a replacement. There is still time to sign up, so if your child is keen, please do so. A big thank you to AFL Auskick for providing this program, particularly the free PE lessons, and also to Lara and Jasmine who have done such a great job.
As you may know, our school Athletics Carnival is coming up towards the end of this term, and will be held at St Joseph’s on Friday the 9th of June, at the end of Week 8. In preparation for this event, PE lessons for the rest of the term will be focused on Athletics skills. Each week we will cover different events, from Track and Field to Relays and Ballgames, so that students understand all the different events and are ready to compete. Due to the fact that Mrs Kass Clark has qualifications in Athletics coaching and has a lot of knowledge and expertise in this area, she will be working with me in PE lessons throughout this term, to provide the students with specialised coaching. Thanks Kass, and we look forward to another busy term of PE!
Until next time!
Mrs Andrews.

From the APRE
Welcome back everyone, I hope you all enjoyed a lovely Easter break with family.
We have quite a busy term ahead of us with many events on. We started off already with a liturgy for ANZAC Day led by our 5/6 students. It was a beautiful service. Thank you to the other classes for the wonderful wreaths that you all made to lay at our memorial during this liturgy.
In a few weeks, we have our Mother's Day liturgy. If you haven't already, please send a photo of yourself and your children to Miss Twidale. This liturgy will be led by our Prep/1 class.
We also have number of children continuing their faith journey this term. These children will be making their Confirmation and Communion. Information about this has been distributed to these families.
Our Mary MacKillop value for the month of May is 'Be Kind'. We will be looking for students who explempify these qualities consistently.
God Bless,
Michele Sanders
