Newsletter Term 2 Week 10
Principal's Report

Dear Community,
I cannot believe we are at the end of Term 2 already and at the halfway mark for the year. It certainly has been a very busy term, with many significant events taking place. Unfortunately, it has also been a big term of student and staff illness. Fingers crossed after the holidays we will be back into normal routines!
Parent Portal
Thank you to all those who have already signed up to the parent portal and who are accessing information and using the app to report student absences.
As of Term 3, the Parent Portal will become the primary source of information for parents, as well as the source of permission notes etc, with parents able to complete permissions within the Sentral Parent Portal App.
If you have not registered within the portal, please do so ASAP, otherwise you will miss vital school information.
If you require any help with signing up to the Parent Portal, or downloading the Sentral App, please contact the school office for assistance.
Uniform
Thank you to our Uniform Working Party, for their work in the Uniform Policy Review.
Next term girls may continue to wear either the summer or winter uniform. As of 2023, the girls winter uniform will no longer be worn. More information will come during Term 3 outlining the new uniform policy.
A few reminders around uniform as we move into Term 3.
Our students are often ‘the face of the school’ when seen out and about in the community. For this reason, it is really important that our students are always well presented, neat and tidy both at school and in the community.
Very faded and tattered uniforms are not acceptable to be worn, and hairstyles should also be neat and tidy and comply with our uniform policy. I have attached the complete uniform policy for you, and the section below outlines the expectations around student hairstyles.
Thank you for your adherence to this.
Directly from the St Joseph’s Uniform Policy:
Please Note:
- Girls may wear bottle green school shorts underneath their skirts, and then remove their skirts for lunchtimes and other sporting activities.
- Sewers to use patterns available from office only to ensure the correct style is maintained.
- Hair Expectations for both boys and girls- natural hair colours only, neatly groomed in moderate styles. Hair longer than shoulder length MUST be tied back.
- Jewellery- Students may wear 2 plain stud/sleeper earrings (1 in each earlobe).
- No make-up or nail polish permitted.
Semester One Reports
Semester One report cards were distributed to students yesterday, so please make sure that you received these and that they didn't get lost at the bottom of a school bag at the end of a long term!
Should you need another copy for any reason, please feel free to contact the school office.
I would like to wish all St Joseph’s students and families a wonderful and refreshing mid-year break and look forward to seeing everyone return safely, ready to hit the ground running on Tuesday, 12th July.
Have a wonderful break, enjoy the winter season and the holiday spent with family and friends.
God Bless,
Mr Lawson Short
In the Midst of Winter
Lord:
In the midst of Winter, when the days are cold and wind can pierce remind us of the warmth of your love.
In the midst of Winter, when days are short, dawn comes late, and dusk arrives early remind us that in the darkness your light still shines.
In the midst of Winter, when the flowers of spring still lie hidden in the earth, when leaves are off the trees, and the world can seem bleak
remind us that Easter is but a short time away.
And when in our lives we feel as if we are experiencing a season of winter, reach out to us with the power of your resurrection so that we may feel the warmth of your love and see your light that alone can take away the darkness of our soul.

From the APRE

Wow! What a term we have had. There have been many interruptions and changes to routines but we have managed to get through.
Today, our Mini Vinnies club held a Pyjama Day to raise much needed funds for the Vinnie's Winter Appeal. The money will go towards buying blankets and warm clothing for people in need in our community. Thank you for supporting this day.
Catholic Education Week is coming up in Week 3 of next term and this year, Toowoomba will host the state launch. Students have been chosen to be part of this Mass and a note regarding this will be distributed early next term. We have also been busy this week painting rocks around the theme of Faith, Hope and Love to be on display at the Mass. Our students have had a big part in the preparation for this state launch Mass and we are looking forward to their work being a part of this special day. We will also hold our own school Catholic Education Week Mass.
It seems like it's a long way off, but Mary MacKillop Feast Day is coming up early next term. That means that you need to start collecting your 20c coins. Mini Vinnies runs a number of activities on this day and each student will need a bag of coins to participate in the activities. We normally say $4-$5 worth. There is lots of fun to be had and all money raised goes to Father Thomas' charity, 'Mission of Mercy'.

Gore Hwy Athletics Success
Congratulations to all of our students who competed at Gore Hwy Athletics last Thursday. Great team spirit was shown by all our athletes, with lots of cheering, hugs and pats on the back when someone did well.
Our school had lots of great individual performances but the greatest achievement was winning the Average Points Trophy.
What a great effort from everyone and congratulations for all your efforts and determination.
A big congratulations also goes to Will Purnell and Heidi Sanders who were selected to compete at Inner Downs Athletics Trials. We wish them all the best for this event which will take place next term. Keep training hard!

Prep/ 1 News
I can’t believe we are already in week 10 of Term 2 and halfway through 2022! It is crazy to think how quickly this year has gone but also how much these kids have grown socially, emotionally and academically. Each week they blow us away with some of the amazing learning they are doing.
We have finally wrapped up all our assessment for the semester. Everyone did AMAZING! You should all be very proud of your children for the amount of effort they put into each and every task.
In English, we are still working on our plays. We are hoping to have them ready next term to present to the school and maybe even our parents! We have been working very hard on them and are starting to remember our lines without the scripts. We have also come to an end of our Julia Donaldson unit. It was so much fun learning about her and the crazy characters she comes up with. We have been enjoying watching some of her stories come alive in animation. So far we have watched The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom and Highway Rat! They are so much fun, and we absolutely love these stories.
In Health, we have been learning all about moving our bodies. Last week for our assessment, we got to choose our own songs and become choreographers. We had a few rules about moves we had to put in our dance. It was funny to watch the chicken dance and macarena be choreographed into “Cover me in sunshine”!!
We hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday and returns rested and refreshed for Term 3!

News from 2/3 - Week 10
Hi St Joey’s parents, friends, and community, we’re finally at the end of the semester, and what a busy term it’s been! It was great to finally have a normal feeling term, without Covid affecting too many school functions or events.
I think the students have earnt a couple of weeks off, they have all worked really hard and I am really proud of their efforts the past couple of weeks.
Well done to those students who participated in Singfest recently. It was a great performance, and you all did the school proud.
The students have worked especially hard in maths the past few weeks, and to reward their efforts we held a shopping spree activity! They got to showcase their ability to make transactions and give correct change, then they were able to buy real lollies at the end from the lolly shop. I think they all enjoyed it and definitely made learning a lot more fun.
I hope everyone has a relaxing break, see you all at the beginning of Term 3.

4/5/6
Firstly I want to congratulate all of the 4/5/6 students on their hard work over the past two weeks. They have been putting in many hours completing assessment and it has not been an easy task.
We have had a very busy term and it has been impacted by lots of absences and changes of staff, but to their credit, the students have shown great resiliance.
Thank you to all the parents who came in for interviews last week. It was great to catch up with you all and talk about how your children are progressing this year.
It now seems so long ago, but what a wonderful night Singfest was. The students performed amazingly well and had so much fun. Thank you all for supporting you children and coming along to watch.
Yesterday we welcomed Miss Lainey McPhee to our classroom. Lainey will be with us next term from Week 3 until Week 9, teaching the students as part of her final prac placement before she graduates universtiy to become a teacher. She spent the day yesterday interacting with the students and getting to know them all and is excited to be part of our school community for the majority of next term.
Today, we cooked up our healthy breakfasts that we have been working on over the past two terms. There was some interesting creations and a huge mess!
Until next term,
Michele Sanders
